What I did this weekend

“How was the weekend?”

94.7% office goers face/ask this question every Monday. (I made that stat up. No research was done and no animals were harmed while quoting these stats.)

What you are going to read next is true and not a story.

I don’t do anything over the weekend. This one or any weekend before this one. If I am not travelling, I am home reading books or blogs and sleeping. Twenty minutes on late Sunday evening is reserved for household chores – laundry, sheets, ordering grocery etc. But that’s it. Nothing less or more.

My favorite part of the two day break is napping after breakfast. Before you think that’s why I can’t lose a gram – let’s go through my routine and help you understand. I get up early on (most)weekends and cycle to Yoga. Once I am back home, I have my breakfast and then I find my Kindle and the bed. That’s the part I love. Reading and not knowing when I dozed off. Of course there I other things I do like watching movies, chatting and walking around the locality but those are not as important as my sleep-time.

It calms me down and the tired me finds home the moment I hit bed.

Do you have a ritual like mine that you follow on weekends?

I slept over the weekend

Writing for MicroblogMondays #143 and tagging this selfie of me sleeping to MundaneMondays#110. Are you surprised? Don’t be. I can click shots that don’t look like selfies. Yes, I am smart. 🙂

  1. I find this one of the most honest posts I have read about weekends; normally peeps make such a hoo-haa over how many chores, whose turn and how much booze and partying and ufffff!!! I loved a peek into your relaxed weekend; sounds blissful and refreshing! 😉

  2. I am jealous of you and your nap, Parul. I don’t know when I had a peaceful sleep in the night recently, let alone nap! You are smart, okay, but very bad for showing off with that nap selfie. Babysit mine and let me nap next weekend and see how uneventful that goes! rolling eyes

  3. Sounds great that you have the weekend totally your way! That’s very very different from mine. I usually have endless chores, work and preparing for the week ahead with more chores that you could think of. Sundays are the busiest for me generally, and I usually have to choose between napping or reading. The only way I take time out for writing or exercising is by cutting down on my rest or relaxation. Very unenvious state, to be honest!

  4. After a stress filled week of teaching high school, I look forward to my Saturday morning ritual of waking up early, brewing coffee then painting and working in my art journals. I think weekends are meant to be spent on what we want to do rather than what we should do. I find I get resentful when I have to do things I really dont want to. Happy napping!

  5. My routine is much less admirable. I play video games every Saturday morning. I get cranky when I travel and don’t get my morning of coffee and games.

  7. Somehow, my weekends are always more hectic than my weekdays.

I clean the house, fold the laundry and clean more. For a person with OCD like me, this does not count as a chore.

But yeah, these days I’m going running to Cubbon park every Sunday followed by a rigorous game of badminton. Trying to be fit, in little ways.

Okay bro. Sounds like a lot. 😛
I don’t have a weekend ritual because my discipline is in shambles. 😐 This weekend however, I’m in Mysore attending a Toastmasters annual district conference, so that should be fun.

  9. I do enjoy weekends when I don’t have much but I do tend to do stuff on my weekends most of the time. I used to be an early riser but after lacking sleep during the week for the past year or so, I find I do sleep in till 7 or 8 on weekends. I also work some Saturdays so usually then, I’ll have a one-day weekend. If the weather is nice I’ll go outside and enjoy it but if not, I’ll binge watch Netflix. I also do my laundry, groceries, cooking in bulk on the weekend and cleaning the house too every alternate weekend. So sadly, a lot of time is spent on chores.

  10. I’d say you’ve earned the rest on the weekend. Weekends for me are busy and lazy. I tend to cook quite a bit, catch up on movies, shows on laptop, reading etc. I stay mostly offline and hence don’t really blog or read blog posts. Spend time with the family mostly and also handle the chores too.

  11. Well, these days I don’t get much sleep on weekends but it’s definitely more than what I get on weekdays, so no complaints. I’m not much of an outdoorsy person. So, I stay at home and try to catch up on some reading, if possible. Basically, I try to not do anything on weekends 🙂

  14. hihi, Breakfast in bed! That’s a ritual on weekends when P cooks some sumptuous scrambled eggs, toasts, fruits and ginger tea 😛 I hate going for parties on weekends.

  15. Doing nothing on weekend is relaxing. A nap after good breakfast and physically tiring cycling and yoga must be rejuvenating. People (generally housewives) complain about how the chores increase manifolds on Sat-Sun, especially too much of cooking. My take – itna saara kaam karke kahan jaana hai. My weekends are as hectic and as relaxed as I plan them to be. Man kiya to khoob kaam kar liya aur nahin kiya to kuch bhi nahin kiya.

  16. I’d love a do-nothing weekend routine but the mundane stuff like buying groceries, veggies or preparing food eats into my time and the weekend just disappears. I do not blog or read blogs over the weekend. And, I totally get that part about sleeping before lunch. I used to do that a lot before I got married. Loved your routine, Parul 🙂

  18. Normally I TRY to sleep in a bit on weekends and holidays. Except of course like today when I forget to turn off all my weekday alarms and end up starting my day at 5am… LOL I see a nap in my very near future!

  19. I love the idea of doing nothing on weekends. I get tired of being asked if I have any “exciting plans” or if I’m “doing anything special.” To me, “nothing” is special.
