Growing up, my younger brother had a completely different understanding of how it rains. He believed that when God wants to clean the world, He throws water from up above.
Then we grew up and lost that sense of innocent logic.
Reflecting on that today, I think my brother wasn’t too wrong. As individuals, it’s up to us what we want to believe and most of us do that. Kids are open to learn science and logic and they change but that simple thing is much harder for adults. Let me not digress here and leave this topic for some other day and post.
Rains and rainbows are one of the most beautiful gifts that we have from nature.
How many of you have made paper boats? I used to love doing that. In the pitter patter of rain drops and letting my boat sail from one end to the other used to be a thing of joy.
Our school used to declare it a ‘rainy day’ when it poured cats and dogs. Going half way to school and hearing about the day off, we would still go to to school. There was fun in discovering on our own that the school was off.
Then we grew up and paper boats and rainy days became a thing of childhood.
When it rains now, I am either home or on my way back to home from work. I have observed that it rains in the evenings in Bangalore. When I am home, I like to watch it rain from my balcony. I loved the trees when it is raining. The swaying of leaves feels like the tree is dancing with happiness. The drops of water on leaves and the clean roads and dark sky seem to be singing a song together.
So how about I share some of my most happy rain pictures with you and you tell me what is about rains that you like. Wait! If you don’t like rains, tell me that too. Will you?

I loved paper boats of yore. Somehow, rain was so delightful when we were younger. We didn’t mind the mud. In fact, we loved the potholes. I love watching the rain. It has such a calming effect. Loved all the pics you shared , Parul.

Oh I love the rains especially watching from my window, sipping a hot cuppa my fav tea. A walk in the soft drizzle or a drive is the next best thing. We met on the day it poured so ferociously and thats one of my best rainy days Parul 🙂

I love to make paper boats when it rains, but I just hate the crawlies that pop up in rainy season.

Loved the pictures and could so relate to the writeup, Parul. Nothing better than curling up with a book and a piping hot cup of ginger tea, reading away with the gentle sounds of the rain. It hasn’t been raining much at all in my part of the city and we’re all waiting for the big ones. Oh yes, hate the flooding that comes with it, but the rains are needed, don’t you think?

Singing, “Raindrops keep falling on my head” as I read your post, Parul. And also, “woh kagaz ki kashti…” We’ve had a rather overwhelming monsoon in Mumbai this season that conrinues lashing on relentlessly. Loved your quirky rain clicks Parul!

Such pretty photographs! I so miss the rain day holidays from childhood. I used to love playing in the run, making paper boats, even just watching it rain and listening to its song. But now, with the traffic mess and flooded roads, I’ve lost that love I had for the rains.

Oh Parul what lovely snaps and even better memories. Our school was pretty far away and we used to travel by bus and when we’d find the school shut the first thing we’d do is open out tiffins and have a big picnic lunch on our way back. It used to be an absolute riot.

I too thought of reminiscing childhood memories and paper boats at first. Then hesitated for some reason. Loved the post and clicks.

I have made paper boats too in childhood. The photos in the post are nice captures. I hated to go out in the rains in Delhi and Bangalore because the whole outside world comes to a stand still there. On the contrary, rains or storms, nothing stops life here. It might do for the road traffic but not for me since I walk to all places.

Rain and childhood goes hand in hand. Don’t they ?? I loved rains and still do. Sailing Paper boats, getting drenched, feeling those drops on the face, driving, and pakoras when back in home. This used to be my plan whenever it rains. Yes I sailed paper boats even after my childhood. Rains are magical indeed. And yes, beautiful pictures these are.

Pretty pictures of the rain, Parul!
Yeah, the thrill we experience during our childhood gets lost as we grow. How I wish that age of innocence returned for a while when it rains. We will be able to enjoy life better, even if for just a while!

I like the rain but at times I hate the rain in Bangalore especially in the evenings when I’m finishing work and leaving for home. The roads get filled with water, the traffic is jammed and no cab or auto driver would agree to take me to my destination.
If I’m in my house, I just love the rains 😀

What lovely pics! Makes me feel like I’m sitting in the car with you. Every child in India grew up with his/her own special memories of the monsoon. For me, rains were about going to Juhu beach with my friends, and eating Chana chaat and Bhutta, while getting soaked.

Memories of rains during childhood… there’s something beautiful about them. We used to make paper boats and dance on the terrace during rains. Agree with your brother’s logic about rains, I believed, it was to wash and clean everything. Lovely pictures, Parul.

I love rains but surely don’t like getting stuck in them. The way the rains clean the environment and make everything look fresh as well as the smell of the earth after rain is the most amazing thing in my view 😊.

I think I have a complicated relationship with rains. I love it when I’m at home but I absolutely hate it when I’m traveling back home and it starts raining for it means traffic. I love the pictures, Parul.

What I hate about the rains is the wet clothes, the wind blowing the umbrella inside out and of course the monsoon frizz which makes me look like Albert Einstein. What I love about the rains is bhutta, bhajiya, hot tea and card games. Basically sitting indoors while the rest of the world gets wet. I also enjoy some good tv shows or catching up with blogs as I am doing now!

I remember making up one such story in my mind when I was a little kid. My theory was this whole world was inside a big giant person’s stomach and when he drinks water it rains for us. Also, all of us carry a world inside our stomach. 🙂 Your brother’s story is much better. But yeah, that innocence to believe earnestly in some silly story that pops in our head had long lost. Now I get to listen to my kids’ stories. 🙂
I love those clicks, Parul. You are a very talented photographer. ❤

Parul, I like the idea of God throwing water from above to clean the world. Everything looks so clean and fresh after a good rainfall. The vibrant colors of the green leaves and the smell of moist soil when it starts raining are amazing to see and smell. Your pictures are beautifully captured. I love the one with the newly washed leaf on the road. Lovely post.

Ah! Paper Boats ❤ I really miss those days. We used to run along paper boat that used to sway its way across the small streams of water. There used to be competition and we used to mark how long one's boat went and winner was decided based on that!

The post brought back so many memories, Parul. I remember it used to rain without fail just when it was let off. My sister and I would run to stand under an awning half way from school. My mother, poor thing would carry 2 umbrellas and come there to take us home. The photos are very good.
